It’s a Family Affair: Gimatic to Exhibit New Grippers at K 2010

Family-owned Italian producer of pneumatic components for automation (mainly grippers) will exhibit at K 2010, the world’s largest trade show for plastics and rubber processing, in Hall 10 on stand E55.

The company, which is one of many Italian manufacturers exhibiting at the show, was founded in 1985. Its headquarters are in Brescia, 100 km east of Milan, Italy. The site covers an area of 5,000 square meters and incorporates offices, warehouse facilities, workshops and parking spaces. A total of 45 people are directly employed at the company.

In terms of production, Gimatic manufactures approximately 100,000 items a year. The components used in its products come from a restricted number of suppliers, all of which have been accurately selected and monitored. Products must pass a series of final tests, before they enter the warehouse.

As a general policy, Gimatic invests 10% of its turnover in the research and development of new products. As a result of this investment, Gimatic owns more than 168 industrial patents. This has made Gimatic an industry-leading company, with one of the largest catalogue of standard components for small to medium size handling applications.

Gimatic does not fear to complete and collaborate with other fields in order to find new design solutions. On the one hand, it is keen to work with companies which are able to manage the whole developing process of a product — from the initial concept to the design and from the technological aspects to the design. It always listens to its supplier’s needs by borrowing solutions from them that are then adapted to its own product. This results in a strategic relationship that always allows new methods to be found — this makes Gimatic a state-of-the-art company.

To always meet market requirements, Gimatic also offers a customised manufacturing option. Such products are not included in the catalogues and are designed in order to find customised solutions aimed at meeting specific needs. Gimatic is able to produce such products thanks to its versatility and expertise in the field.

Gimatic’s newest range of products is the OFX series of one-finger, perpendicular pneumatic grippers with single acting pistons, a through hole in the finger to provide vacuum to a cup for suction, and a removable TPU rubber paddle on the finger for soft touch. The finger is extended using compressed air and retracts using a spring.

As much as 80% of Gimatics orders come from foreign customers in industries where robotised handling and assembly systems are used, especially automotives, packaging, electronics, pharmaceuticals and the food industry.
