Berndorf Bag
A growing trend has been witnessed in the Austrian city of Berndorf - more and more shoppers are taking their purchases home in a woven plastic carrier bag.
The Berndorf Bag has been custom designed for the "I shop in Berndorf" campaign. It is a reusable carrier measuring 35 cm x 35 cm x 20 cm and has been developed by Austrian technology supplier Starlinger under the product name CB*STAR. The Berndorf Bag is a prime example of a practical, sustainable packaging solution.
Initiator of the community project Sandra Kreger said shoppers "love the bag".
"I can only encourage other towns to take up the idea which is good for the environment, the economy and the customers," she said. "With the Berndorf Bag, we want to strengthen the local economy by making consumers aware that most of the items they commonly need are available here in Berndorf."
Kreger is the proprietor of a small Italian delicatessen in the center of Berndorf and made it her mission to find an alternative to paper carrier bags. One of her customers, who works at the nearby plant of the machinery manufacturer Starlinger, extolled the benefits of the CB*STAR bag.
"CB*STAR bags are conveniently light, can carry up to 25 kg and are reusable," Kreger explained. "They are also good-looking, attractively priced and completely recyclable, therefore environment-friendly."
It did not take long before 14 more nearby businesses made their enthusiasm for the Berndorf Bag known, thus the "I shop in Berndorf" project came into being.
The CB*STAR carry bag has a favourable eco-profile for its entire product lifecycle, as well as economic advantages such as its comparatively low cost to produce, while the bags are durable and strong enough to be used repeatedly for several years, further reducing waste and saving raw material. In addition, they are 100 per cent recyclable. The high printing quality enhances the visual appeal of the CB*STAR carry bag and makes it an ideal long-term advertising medium.
