Equitech will present examples of its ultraviolet and visible spectroscopy capabilities at NPE.
The international team of scientists and engineers will be on hand to greet visitors and demonstrate the solutions Equitech provides using colorimetry, spectrophotometry and optics capabilities. The experts will share application data specific to improved efficiency and value through early detection that prevents errors via process monitoring and continuous quality control. The instruments and different optical probes that will be on display provide solutions for a range of applications, covering both transparent and opaque materials.
Areas of expertise are applications for: polymers (extrusion), with an emphasis on working with recycled materials. Recycled material adds a particular challenge due to the variation of product characteristics including colour and contamination. PET, PP, PS and PE are the most common recycled polymers we measure and control. Equitech’s Online Color Spectrophotometer system allows processors to constantly measure the molten polymer prior to the die. This measurement can accurately predict final colour numbers and other colour spaces. Alarm capabilities provide the tool operator with the data resources needed to segregate off-spec material.
With the use of color measurement as feedback to a control system, closed loop control can be achieved to effectively dose brighteners (TiO2) and pigments. This eliminates the need for colour lab checks to bring your process into control.
The online colour feedback gives insight into optimal screw configuration, screw speed and residence time. Frequency of the measurements enables enhancements to feeder performance and dosing consistency. Colour changes can also be realised real time.
With cutting-edge technology, Equitech provides customers with the in-line, real-time monitoring systems enabling cost-effective and efficient quality control.
