ExxonMobil Chemical and WM Thermoforming Machines will demonstrate thermoforming expertise at NPE015.
Using ExxonMobil PP6262 resin, WM will produce functional, appealing yogurt cups on its FT900 thermoforming machine at its booth (S12139).
Jared Hill, Global Market Development Manager for homopolymer polypropylene at ExxonMobil
Chemical, explained: "The ExxonMobil resin provides a distinct balance of clarity and stiffness, making it well-suited for extruded sheet and thermoformed container applications."
Extruded sheet made from ExxonMobil PP6262 offers excellent extensibility for thermoformed packaging, which is important for deep-draw products like beverage cups and food containers. ExxonMobil PP6262 provides easy sheet extrusion and thermoforming due to its enhanced rheology and optimised crystallisation kinetics. The unique molecular architecture of the resin, combined with a high performance additive package, offers a distinct balance of stiffness and clarity.
ExxonMobil products for thermoforming applications include polypropylene resins as well as Vistamaxx performance polymers.
"We are looking to expand this portfolio with new grades in the near future," said Hill.
Vistamaxx polymers for customer innovation
Vistamaxx polymers added to PP formulations offer innovative thermoformed packaging solutions for customers. Vistamaxx polymers deliver good impact resistance, clarity and downgauging opportunities which can reduce breakage and waste, improve visual appeal and reduce costs. Vistamaxx polymers can also reduce scrap rates and allow thinner wall thickness, yielding potential cost savings. On thinner wall constructions, Vistamaxx polymers can achieve deep draw forms without stretch or flow marks.
“Clearly tough” cups made from ExxonMobil PP6262 and Vistamaxx polymers will be used for beverages offered at the ExxonMobil Chemical Discovery Center at NPE, West Hall, Level 2 (W204).
