AIMPLAS and AINIA, the organisers of MeetingPack 2017, from May 30 -31, have celebrated the forum’s focus ‘as an international meeting point of food plastic packaging.’
AIMPLAS, a plastics research institute based in Valencia, announced that MeetingPack brought together more than 30 speakers and 300 professionals from the food, packaging, materials and equipment manufacturing sectors, to discuss challenges in food packaging – using high-pressure packaging systems that require fewer preservatives to extend shelf life of food; vacuum packages that provide a high protection to food; packages with modified atmospheres to avoid formation of mould and bacteria and keep the original colour of meat products and packages for healthier menus to minimize the food disposal.
The forum discussed as how to deal with active packaging manufacturing and solutions in the field of packaging technologies and food disposal; new solutions on raw materials to produce packages; flexible packages, extension of shelf life, new manufacturing and packaging systems; additive manufacturing and 3D printing; Industry 4.0; active and smart packaging for sustainable packages.
Trends in packages allowing the development of more natural and healthy products with sensory quality were also stressed, which took into account the food waste reduction and the respect for the environment.
