Global sportswear brand Nike has revealed that its new Jerseys for the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the US will be made with discarded plastic bottles.

The polyester fabric blend the striking kit is manufactured from represents some 20 waste PET bottles that have been reclaimed, melted and converted into yarn.
Nike has a strong record of utilising plastic bottles to create more sustainable sportwear, with the organisation diverting three billion bottles from landfill since 2010.
The fabric in the new NBA jerseys is lightweight and moisture-wicking, making it more comfortable than the current NBA uniforms.
The new uniform design has been created to ensure maximum comfort for players during what is expected to be an intense 82-game season. Over 25 years of research on basketball and the current players went into creating the kit, which is built on a refined version of the Nike Aeroswift basketball chassis and in-keeping with Nike's commitment to sustainability.
