SCANDINAVIA'S leading developer of custom thermoplastic compounds, PolyKemi, has opened an external development facility.
Polykemi, trading since 1968, hopes the move will get material samples to customers can even quicker, while its R&D team can continue to focus on new development and innovation.
Karl Banke, internal development manager, said: “We hope this change will provide a clearer picture of the future work of our two development departments. We also hope for a more efficient and successful development work of internal and external development departments. All improvements should lead to many new businesses and a maintained leading position within the compounding industry.”
So far Polykemi R&D has successfully developed its POLYfill HC-family, a lighter and more cost-effective alternative to traditional construction plastics, with maintained mechanical properties. The expansion has brought an investment in new machinery, so PolyKemi has optimised its extruding line, and produced a new injection moulding machine with 150 tons clamping force.
Banke added: “The size of the extruder enables us to produce extensive series of smaller volumes with short lead times. In addition, we have also invested in a new dryer that uses vacuum technology. The dryer is fast and effective, which is required to conduct tests on the big series of samples we currently produce.”
