Axel Plastics Research Laboratories has announced a new, water-based, semi-permanent mould release that is especially suitable for moulding silicone rubber products that will come in contact with food. The use of silicone rubber for consumer goods has increased steadily in recent years as consumers have responded favorably to the soft touch of rubber in many products.
Capitalising on silicone’s flexibility and heat resistance and the rubber’s ability to be easily and dramatically colored, silicone rubber products are now enjoying exponential growth in products designed for the kitchen and table. With this increase in silicone products designed for use in contact with food, has come an increased interest and scrutiny of the materials used to release these moulded silicone parts. While food grade mould releases exist, many of the conventional mould releases do not provide the easy and clean release that high production injection moulding and over-moulding of silicone on plastic require.
XTEND W-3236FG directly addresses these requirements, claims the group, with a non-hazardous, aqueous solution of proprietary resins and reactive surface modifiers that meet the E.U. Food Directive (10/2011) and comply with food contact plastics under U.S. F.D.A. 21CFR
176.170/21 and CFR 176.180. The mould release film created by XTEND W-3236FG is long lasting and resistant to transfer, making it suitable for high production, injection, transfer or over-moulding. Parts moulded with XTEND W-3236FG will be clean and blemish free and ready for any secondary processes without cleaning.
