PepsiCo’s Naked smoothies to use recycled plastic bottles in the UK
The new bottles have been rolling out across the full smoothie range this month, and are accompanied by a new, modernised label refresh to emphasise the use of 100 per cent recycled plastic.
Speaking to BeverageDaily, Charlotte Ashburner, Senior Marketing Manager at PepsiCo, said: “We know consumers are looking for ways to make a positive difference by supporting brands that address causes they care about … We’re really proud to announce that Naked is the only current juice/smoothie brand in grocery retail that uses bottles made from 100 per cent recycled plastic.”
The bottles are designed for recyclability and thus reduce the amount of plastic going to landfill.
PepsiCo is aiming to use 25 per cent recycled content in its plastic packaging by 2025 globally, as well as reducing virgin plastic content in its beverage portfolio by 35 per cent by the same date.
In beverages, its efforts have included the acquisition of at-home brand SodaStream – which it says will avoid the use of 67 billion plastic bottles by the same year.
