PET to PET Recycling Österreich GmbH looks back on its most successful year so far.
In 2019, more than 26,300 tonnes of PET material (~1.1 billion PET bottles) were used to obtain valuable secondary raw material for new PET containers, representing a further increase of three per cent compared to 2018.

PET to PET Recycling increases recycled material output
Austria's beverage industry took responsibility for environmental and climate protection in 2007, and with the commissioning of PET to PET Recycling Österreich GmbH ensured a complete and resource-saving recycling of PET bottles in Austria.
MD Christian Strasser said: "PET to PET is one of the world's most modern plants in the field of PET recycling, ongoing process optimisation and continuous capacity expansion are among our constant companions. This enabled us to increase our performance again in 2019 and achieve a new, very gratifying record result."
Great demand, further expansion
The washing system for PET flakes was completely modified in 2019. This further increased both the quality of the recyclate and the throughput.
Strasser added: “This is extremely important for us, especially in view of the growing demand.”
In 2020, capacities will increase again with the expansion of the manipulation areas and the granulation plant.
Collective collection
Morale among Austrians is high with three out of four PET bottles correctly disposed of and collected – but, Strasser continued, there is still room for improvement: “We continue to ask the population for their full support so that we can really recycle all used PET bottles. We want every PET bottle back. This is the only way we can keep the extremely high-quality packaging material … in the cycle for as long as possible and conserve resources in the interest of future generations.
"We have been proud to make a significant contribution to Austria's circular economy with our daily work for over ten years."
